Interesting chapter BarrowMad. Anxiously waiting for the next to see if Sarah learns the ropes.

By the way....off topic but mentioned in the chapter: Is "motorway" the same thing as a "freeway", "highway" or even an "interstate"?

I think it's simiar to a highway. It normally has three lanes and a top speed of 70 mph.. A freeway here is known as a Dual Carriageway, I think.....

In America interstate (meaning major thoroughfare from state to state) are at least two lanes going in one direction and two lanes in the opposite direction. Large cites sometime have 6 or more lanes and can be quite challenging if you need to get on a different highway. You really have to watch the signs closely. There are highways over top highways sometimes over three with bridges.

Our motorways are similar to your interstates. No stopping, no parking, there is a hard shoulder for emergencies and y'all must arrange to have any broken down vehicle removed asap or else.

This is one I have used quite frequently.

When I travel to Birmingham I use the M54 and M6. All other roads are A and B roads for me.

Here is a picture of one of our interstate (I55). It comes through my area from the south gulf area to Chicago IL. The picture depicts the many lanes of the inner city in Chicago. Notice the traffic moves on the correct side of the road and not the wrong side like in ISHY's picture. stpt

I created a conversational thread for the last few posts of BarrowMad's story. I thought we were getting it off topic from the book (my bad). Sorry BarrowMad.

I'm sure it's a lot less confusing at ground level.
