Wow those beans are long Glad. I've never seen or had white squash.

The beans are delicious Spice. The Chinese use them often in stir fry.

And the white squash is delicious also.

Both will be grown again next year.

Yum yum, I love asparagus We cook it in a microwave steam bag and dad adds cauliflower or brcolli to the mix. I like eating fresh asparagus myself.

The white squash grow quite well. Pick them when your thumnail pierces easily into the shell, slice up, dip in batter, and fry.

I enjoyed them this summer but we must have planted them later than they should have been for the heat got to them.

James and I picked the rest of the blackeye peas this afternoon and pulled up the plants and their cages. I will sleep well tonight.

I haven't to my knowledge seen white squash.

If you grow green beans, black eyed peas, etch and the pod is dried out, don't throw it away. instead save it for next year's crop of green beans, black eyed peas etc. The reason is that the seeds in the pod will be accustomed to the soil, which will help your plants grow better. This is something I learned from my grandfather.

What you call "green beans" we call "runner beans. You are quite correct in saying that keeping the beans for the following year is customary. Runner beans breed true and the purchase of new stock is not required.

Thanks Faith. Son does start some plants from the seed from the year that ended. We had a great crop of okra this year grown from dried pods removing the seeds.

The seed companies charge too much for their seeds. One tomato seed grows a plant that grows many tomatoes and each tomato has many seeds. God sure was good when He invented the veggies.

I know one thing for sure.....the runner beans will be planted differently next year. It was a jungle this year and wasps built their nest and in turn I got stung.

We used to save seeds from flowers for planting the next year. And we had our share of wasps and yellow jackets in the gardens too.

Bees are good for pollinating the plants that's for sure....but one must be careful not to be around their nests.

(do wasps pollinate the blooms?)

Get yourself a beehive Gladstone. You will be repaid handsomely with better pollination of your plants and honey as a by product. My GA neighbour has loads of hives and he sells his honey at the farmers market for a ridiculous price.

I dunno how diabetes would be affected by honey but it would get you off the sugar anyhow.

You need honey bees for making honey not wasps. I will pass on the hives.....not keen on being stung.

Bees will only sting in defence. Wasps sting because they like to. I think wasps have lots of wimmin genes.

Interesting idea. Would the location have anything to do with it? (south, north, mid-west etc)

Time now to sit back from the garden. Son is mowing leaves again today and placing them on each section. Soil should be good next spring!
