My Dad had a 40 by 40 foot asparagus patch we would pick asparagus from each year. Cooked fresh asparagus is delicious! Has to be cooked right though. We picked it without tools. Would bend the spears over till they break.

We have a patch in our garden but do not get enough to satisfy us. It is short growing in the garden....always sad when there is none to pick.

Son took the weed eater to the asparagus patch the other day before they start coming up through the ground. He always leaves the grass over winter to help mulch the roots. I am getting anxious!

Will have to pull some of those weeds. When they grow high again, they'll hide the asparagus.

Our asparagus didn't produce well last year.
We're hoping for a better crop this year I use
the term Crop loosely. It takes a few years for
asparagus to produce abundantly.
LFF, we too break it off and often eat it as we stand there.

Years ago, my Dad had a large asparagus patch. Was tempting to break them off lower. I like cooked asparagus, if it's cooked right- still firm.
