Has It Really Been That Long??

I thought this would be a good thread to interest not only me but some others.  I seem to be neglecting our great SATW lately so maybe a post like this will help.

Today marks 57 years since I graduated from high school.  Back then many girls wanted to get married and have a family to help raise.  That is just what I did two days later....get married but the family did not come for 6 plus years.  

I did work a retail job to help out but it was not the greatest paying job.  It did give me the security in knowing I was contributing to the household income.  Looking back if I could have known it would take 6 years to start a family I would have tried to go to college......guess it was not meant for me to do that though.  I know for certain I have learned a lot of common knowledge of everyday living that many higher educated people may not have experienced.

Perhaps  I will use this thread to reflect back on a few memories.  Please join me in doing the same.  We may find it to be a rewarding thread of memories.  

I will begin the day of the graduation.  Like all graduates we had to be at the auditorium earlier than the others.  Since I did not know how to drive I was dropped off and when the graduation was over no one was there to bring me home.  Not even my soon to be hubby??  Miss communication if I remember right but I do remember being a bit frightened not knowing how I was going to get back.  I was such a child then within a body who wanted to be grown up.  Well  I had a quarter to use the pay phone and it was not long before boyfriend came back to get me.  This seems so long ago and in reality it was!

When I graduated, I was in the top 10 of my class, wasn't real chummy with anybody else in the class, had my folks, and a few out-of-town relatives, so got home okay to a little party with the retirees from the neighborhood.

Yes.  And ours was the largest senior class for our school at that time.  Times haven't  changed much.  According to the Holland Sentinel, Newspaper,   Saugatuck High School's Class of 2021 — its 134th graduating class — numbered 53 students.

We had several hundred......I tried to google to find out the number but it would not say.

The little town here had 400 this year....(one of the granddaughters graduated)

Alas, I was unable to attend High school.
My Elementary school had a graduation
and among 7 of us, I was Valedictorian.
I admit that Patsy Anderson was a better student
than myself, but I determined to be Number 1, just
once!
In later years, I passed the test for my GED in Detroit.
Funny, my work ended being in Home Health Care.

There's nothing wrong with that, Joyous!

LFF, that is true. I did several types of work.
From picking cotton as a kid to having my insurance
license to my final career as Home Health Aide. I
found that to be the most rewarding. I couldn't begin
to name all the wonderful people I met during those
years. One, a Polish lady who narrowly missed her 100th
birthday. Then her daughter whose hand I was holding 
as she drew her final breath, just after my daughter, 
my gr.daughter and I sang Happy Birthday in honor of her
101 birthday.
I do tend to rattle on!

That's alright, Joyous.  It's nice to have memories like that, and I appreciate your sharing them.  I care.

My friend, I believe we both have had rather interesting lives.
You seem to get out and do quite a bit still.
I traveled but not as much as I would have liked.
At my age I think travel to other countries might not be wise.
I was invited to go with a young couple to Italy. I would have 
loved to, but I felt it unfair to risk the two of them being stuck with
someone my age in a foreign country should the A-Fib or something
happen, so I declined.

I joined Classmates.com to see if we're going to have a 50 year reunion.  Have sent messages to some old classmates.  Haven't heard anything yet.  I may cancel in a couple of months.  I've had 10 visitors, but no messages.

I went to my 10 year reunion, and my 20 year reunion, but after that, no one contacted me, so I didn't bother.  Now that it's been 50 years, I doubt anyone stays in touch.  I've noticed a few of my classmates on classmates.com, and I've messaged some, but get no replies, and the only ones looking at my profile are younger than me.  After my 3 month 'trial membership, I'll probably cancel.

Possibly some aren't living, some have grown old
and cannot bother, and some lost interest.
I understand.
