The 2015 Garden

February 2nd onion seeds planted in ice cubes trays. 10 to 14 days germination time.

February 11th a large variety of different veggies seeds planted in small cups. As each begins to grow then more of exactly the same will be planted to insure a possible excess during the summer months.

All seeds were placed on a south window inside the house.

Will keep this thread updated as things progress concerning the garden inside or out.

Yes!

Onion are still not up yet but there is still time. We may have to scrap those and get fresher seeds.

Sorry to say the girls onions did not make it.  Only two seeds came up and they did not grow well.

A few pictures.  The strawberries now have coffee cans around them (rabbits got into the plants the first night) and today son put plastic over for protection of frost the next few nights.

Looking good! I clicked the first image, and hit the back arrow to look at all the images. Then the images don't have to be opened separately.

Is that because I have the album set for public on photobucket?

If so I need to be selected on what pictures I download. Sometimes some of the pictures are repeats or just not the best.

That looks as if y'all are trying the "no dig" approach. Are you?

I can only see the pics in the garden album. They just repeat, which is good.

I set it to private for now LFF until I look to make sure there is no pictures that I do not want seen....will think about it.

Some seeds take a while to germinate and the soil has to be warm.

Our beans are coming up. Seems like a long time too.

You have sure had enough rain down there of lately. How is the garden holding up now?

Has anyone heard of Walls of Water? it's a green tee pe  thing that you fill with water and place on the soil. > It  heats during the day and at night if it gets cold that warm water helps to protect your plants

Nice to see you. No I have never heard of Walls o Water but they sound interesting.

Sweet potatoes, watermelon, and lima beans planted today. Resting now.

[size=16]Dad likes to plant tomatoes .  and  we used to plant green bens.   After the season ended dad would roto  till the soil and   the next A Mulch was placed on the soil the following years as well as coffee grounds ,( sometimes egg shells leaves from my cousins's tree or trees,  and the res of squash or what have you were combined with the mulch. We get volunteer tomatoes and   then some. If you find out that a green bean, black eyed pea pod is dry set it aside for the next the next suggest this? I found out through trial and error, that the pod or seed is used to the soil in your garden, and henceforth, it will grow better. Back in 1966 mom & I lived with her parents. My grandfather who was a farmer or my grandmother had c[/size] a garden. I seem to remember something about hearing something said back then in my memory bank, about saving the dried pods.

Everything's looking great!  Our camera takes 4  AA batteries.  Guess that's why I don't use it much.

I need to buy the chargeable batteries for the camera.

Well it took some doing but here are a few new pictures.  I had problems learning the new camera.  It took 4 pictures then told me I was out of memory.  You would think I could take more than 4.  So I get in the truck to take the camera back and was in tears.  I tear up easily these days when things do not go well for me.  They were willing to refund the money but asked me to go back to the camera dept and talk with them back there. Come to find out the person who sold me the camera did not tell me it needed a memory card.  So for another $10 I purchase a card.  Came home and took 15 pictures and will show you some.  The garden does not look all that different that other years but will post them anyway for you.

Beets and far down more of those beans....son thinned them out and put the extra in the blocks.  To the right is one cucumber plant that was grown inside.  It has a tiny cuke on it.

Lettuce surrounding the cages and pole beans are coming up in the middle to climb the cages.



Nice ground cover in front and potatoes in the back.  Another experiment....the milk jugs each have a corn plant.



In front are volunteer tomatoes that son transplanted.  We do not know what variety they are until we get closer to harvest time.



Kale, onions, a few yellow beans and one zucchini plant.  More squash to come.

Cucumber is climbing and to left beets, and peppers, way at end are the bush beans then to far left will be the squash



Pole beans in center of cages with lettuce around the bottom,  this will keep soil damp for beans when lettuce is beyond eating,  also to right of picture will be the tomato plants along the tall stakes
