Have used most of those myself!
Did you know that "Mind your Ps and Q's" is originally from the English, where pubs serve beer in pints and quarts, and 'Mind your P's and Q's' meant "Don't drink too much"?

" Mind your p's and q's " means mind your manners - mind your language...i learnt this from a very very young age in our household...

" Your barking up the wrong tree " was another one often said in my parents - grandma's household..

Gizzard is an actual part of a chicken. Not fit to eat, but hungry Southerners can eat pretty much anything that can't outrun them.
A switch in our house meant break a piece off a tree that had some sting when it hit my legs.

"Give me some sugar" was what people said to cute little kids, meaning a kiss.

Lots of those slang comments are part of my childhood and either came over from England
or Ireland.

Actually, when I was a kid, I called 'dibs' on the gizzard, because it was so delicious!

I thought it was rather rubbery.

Depends on how it's prepared.  My Mom could make anything taste good!

Agreed. My sister and mother were great cooks too.
It wasn't the taste, rather the texture. Someone ate it
at our dinner /supper table. Just not me.
