Beginning to plant in my garden now that the weather has improved some. We are about 3 maybe 4 weeks behind.

Friday one son prepared the area for the potatoes.

Later the other son and I planted them.

We also planted lettuce. I must purchase more lettuce seed.

We had a nice rain last night so this will help seeds and potatoes sprout.

I used to enjoy gardening. My brother and I had the job of weeding the garden -- it was about half an acre, so it kept us busy. This was during the Great Depression. It was a great time to grow up in the country. Our mother was raised on a farm, and she taught us how to garden. This is the first year my brother hasn't put in his garden; he's 86. My oldest and dearest buddy.

There is still time for him to plant. If he is not well just a few things will boost his spirits!

No; he's just not up to it this year, Glad.  Besides, the wild animals are the ones who do the harvesting.  He didn't mind that, but it is time for him to stop.

Someone recently said I am not spending enough time here in the SATW......well today was a busy day in the garden.

Raking and hoeing for one thing.

Then the planting of 8 broccoli, 8 green cabbage, 4 purple cabbage plants.

Sowing of lettuce, spinach, radish seeds.

Watering what was planted.

Grands came over and planted onions.

Hoeing more areas getting ready for beets, cucumbers, beans, squash, tomatoes, peppers (when the time is right).

Cooking a nice meal of roast beef, potatoes, carrots, onions and wilted lettuce.

Cleaned up the kitchen.

Did a load of towels.

Yep, I was not here much today.

Gee Glad, the weather must be very Springy.
It's way too frost chancey for setting out plants
here. I did plant a row of Snap peas this morning.
They tolerate cool.

Snowden, has your brother considered container gardening?
Just a few for tomatoes, lettuces, etc?

Sweet / sad violin music, Ishey.

Joyous, the cabbage and brocoli will be ok if we get a hard freeze I will put covers over them overnight.

It is far to early for peppers and tomatoes.

I may sow beets in a few days. Should today but I am completely too tired.

I think you garden because you love nature. Planting things you can eat later saves money and, best of all, guarantees that what you are eating is truly good for you. Gardening, I believe, is a time for worship, too. Quiet time to simply glorify God by creating in His name. Does that sound silly? It sounds just right to me. There's a kind of 'being part of God's creation' in gardening.

Cabbage and broccoli growing nicely. Will get a picture soon.

Good evening everyone!

What a day this has been!

The granddaughters were out of school today so they were here and we planted and planted and planted garden...only taking a break for lunch.

Tomatoes and peppers plants. There will be enough tomatoes to feed an army if they all make it.

Each girl planted their little section with cucumbers, beans, lettuce, spinach, and radishes.

What will still need to be planted will be squash and okra. Also sweet potatoes. Corn does not do well for me so will skip that. I also need to plant some herbs as well.
